Mandarin

i never thought chinese was so useful until i'm here in US. haha. basically, when serene and i have some 'secret' we wanted to tell each other, we could speak chinese aloud (unless the china girl was here) and get our messages across. which is bad. because we tend to talk with just each other and run the risk of excluding other pple out. sigh. i'm gonna teach her sign language as well.. but that'll take some time to learn - i also kinda quite forgotten some signs already (read: getting old and forgetful). but.. pple here learnt sign language in their elementary school (i.e. our primary school) so it aint such a great idea. i also converse with the taiwanese girl in my class in chinese when we wanted to be more 'personal'. opps, i'm using chinese in bad ways. also, serene was 'testing' my 汉语拼音(han4 yu3 pin4 yin1) coz diana was beside her reading over her shoulders the messages and stuff on her laptop. oh i'm so bad..

anyways, i "killed" myself when i let the cat out of the bag (i almost said bag out of the cat =p) when i told a mutual friend who's my classmate in harvard. she was invited by the pastor's daughter and apparently when she asked me how i knew about this church, i said (rather casually) that my bf attends this church (without thinking, really).. and so when pauline (pastor's daughter) found out and told her mum (pastor's wife, but almost synonymous to pastor but she cant really be one because she's female, i think), i got questioned. well, thing was we were at her house for 4th July (America's Independence Day) party. MIT-Harvard combined party. kind of. i was new and when she started to ask for my name (though it was the 2nd time that day), i thot maybe she just has a bad memory for names (at least i'm speaking for myself).. but when she asked who's my bf? me and serene almost died of a heart attack. the ENTIRE room went silent, waiting for my answer. simply because "boyfriend/girlfriend" is like TABOO here. no one talks about it. it's frown upon and discouraged. i was stunned, answered in the loudest (read: soft and quiet) voice. realised just "killed" myself so heh.. just mad at myself for that moment but then glad that the cat's out. at least i wont have to go on dating in secret or be fearful of being found out. i do feel that it might have been better if keng gave advance notice to his church friends.. but then again, it's not his fault because they'll probably have some adverse reaction or sth..

the movie "space ball" was so lame.. i'll continue later..
