Awesome & not-so-Awesome

well, we all have our moments don't we? i really want to thank God that the time my assistant head master chose to walk in to my class to observe was the best time ever today. hehe. i realised i'm not a fan of them just walking in and out w/o prior notice - now that my position is at stake - coz i'm not sure how much of these "observations" actually count against me. i used to think nothing of them, but after what happened last wed, i'm a little more skeptical. that said, the students really enjoyed the class today, and i was glad! =p

i knew my students could already do adding and subtracting unlike fractions (i.e. different denominators) and so i entrusted some of them to be 'teachers' today. each student had to teach the whole class how to solve the questions (of coz i provided the qns). the funny thing was that they wanted to use my teachers' edition textbook. after looking at it, they realised it doesnt show the step by step explanation but the answers only. of coz then whenever someone made a mistake (peer pressure, blackboard mind block, etc) you find that the rest of the class are responding "no, not that way!" or "no, you do it this way..." which is learning in itself. pretty cool. my assistant head master dont usually come up to me at the end of the class (she usually walks in and out as she pleases) but she did this time & well, said it was good fun, well done. *beams* thank God!!

moi tried for some of my other classes but wasn't as successful. i guess even each class have their own personalities, characters and it would be unfair for me to expect the same results/responses. nonetheless, i am hopeful that i will win over students who arent fans of math and improve their skills by the end of this year. =)
