2 retreats in one weekend! crazy me. haha. int'l fall retreat @ alton bay, NH. we left sat morning and drove abt 2 hours. those who left on fri night took 4-5hrs cos stuck in traffic! phew! anyway, on the way there, we saw a bus with grey smoke coming out and tons of pple on the side of a hill. there was also a guy taking pics of the bus from the back (how dangerous!) - little did i know that it was the bus that was taking the youths to the youth retreat @ alfred, ME! the bus was apparently very old, and was alrdy showing some problems at the earlier truck stop. they still went ahead despite some protests from the leaders (according to them.) bus broke down. apparently the police and fire truck came (i'm not surprised since it was smoking!) but not much action there. the driver said they can make it to the next exit which had a macdonalds. bad idea. haha. the bus engine died when it came to the intersection and they "glided" painfully slowly (at 1 mph according to the kids) into the macdonalds.. and there they stayed for the next 5 hours as they waited first for the repair truck to arrive, and subsequently, other leaders who had driven up in their cars together with a borrowed van from the camp, to "rescue" them! sheesh! so happening!!
highlight of retreat #1: music jamming session with love & nat. the board game time with amy & james also nice but i lost all 4 games so was a little sian at the end. =P i went up to maine after the int'l retreat ended on sunday. love had to work on monday so i drove myself north after lunch. went kayaking with my girls. quite fun! had to empty lots of kayak of water so by the time i got all the youths who wanted to kayak to go, i was kinda tired. heh. the youth pastor didn't come for the retreat. last minute his grandma passed away and he had to fly to alabama to do her funeral. so me kay kiang volunteer to help do his closing talk. sermon actually. thankfully i got most of the message across. =) changed here & there to add jokes and some personal stories. hee. some of the other leaders said i did well and that it must have been easy for me to do it since i was a teacher and teachers always stand in front of pple to talk. hmpf. highlight of retreat #2: i saw a shooting star with anna! lol.
